MEET DR. SANDI ROCQUIN

Dr. Rocquin earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, next door to her hometown of Ponchatoula. She moved to Houston, Texas, where she was a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade Reading Recovery Teacher and Science Teacher for eleven years. She went on to earn her Masters of Education from the University of Houston in Administration and Supervision with emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction. Her first administration job was to serve the largest elementary school in Texas as their Curriculum and Instruction Assistant Principal. She was tasked with supporting and opening the district’s first-ever lottery magnet school for Math, Science, and Fine Arts. She supervised the Career and Technology Education, Exceptional Student Education, and Fine Arts Departments.

Her family transferred to Fleming Island, Florida, in 2013 where Dr. Rocquin began her lifelong goal of earning her Educational Specialist and Doctorate of Education in Administrative Leadership from Carson-Newman University. In the Jacksonville area, Dr. Rocquin worked with the Early Learning Coalition of Duval, Florida Youth ChalleNGe Academy, University of Florida’s Lastinger Center, and Clay County School Board.

BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS

“That’s not my job” is not a phrase you will hear coming from Dr. Rocquin. Her focus is for all students to strive to do and be the best they can while learning to serve others with an open heart. She is a firm believer that it takes everyone working for a common goal to make every child grow and develop into their best self. To meet the needs of her faculty and students, she understands that she has to wear many hats to serve as principal — including cheerleader, nurse, operations manager, counselor, and secretary. No task is “beneath her pay grade.”

Over her career, she has cultivated partnerships with various community and educational entities, including STEM2Hub of NE Florida, Microsoft Education Insiders Program and Hacking STEM Trainer, Intel Math Trainer, TRIBES PLC Trainer,Code.org, publication house, and various interfaith organizations.
